"You'd try to change your future. Which is against the law."

-Akton

StarCrash was a 1979 film which has often been accused of ripping off Star Wars.

Summary[edit | edit source]

A crew of intergalactic bandits are hired to take on the evil count Zarth Arn.

On the way, they encounter a robot named Elle who helps them. However, Elle eventually dies but comes back to life. At the end of the movie, the space emperor "halt[s] the flow of time", and during that time, they formulate their plan to take down Zarth Arn. They store their soldiers in a load of coffins, and start throwing them into Arn's space ship. In the end, he dies and everybody can live happily ever after.

Reception[edit | edit source]

This film has often been criticized for it's heavy similarities to Star Wars. On Ruthless Reviews, reviewer Vandel said, "it’s ostensibly a s_____y Italian ripoff of the original Star Wars film[1]". On Black Hole Reviews, it was said that, "Out of all the cheap and fast Star Wars rip-offs, this could be the worst-made but the most entertaining. What you see is exactly what you get. There's no movie magic at work here. Disbelief refuses to be suspended. But it's entertaining rather than logical. Hilariously bad, with the acting and dialogue sealing the deal[2]". On IGN, it was called, "basically a rip-off of the 1977 classic sci-fi/fantasy saga, but at every corner imaginable writer/director Luigi Cozzi injects his brilliantly demented imagination into the narrative[3]". They also said, "Camp and cult enthusiasts, B-movie lovers, bad cinema lovers, Italian cinema lovers and sci-fi geeks should, without question, give Starcrash a spin".
